Do you have a business back-up plan if all your communication systems were disrupted?
Everything is finally smelling of roses.
Just imagine, you are running your extremely successful business, the phones are constantly ringing, and the website is increasing in hits every day, just like your sales. The last 2 years have been a struggle at times, with late nights and early mornings, but now it all seems to be paying off, and the prospect of expansion is on the cards for this business you have put your heart and soul into.
Then disaster strikes.
Suddenly, you aren’t able to make or receive any telephone calls, and your internet connection has been lost! You have no idea why this has happened, or how long this situation will last. Do you have a back up plan? Do you even know who to contact?
Now, there could be a number of reasons for this loss of communication capability, but one thing’s for sure, for every minute you have no telephone service or broadband connection, there is a very real possibility of it having an impact on your sales, and worse, a long term effect on your business, losing ground in the market place which you have worked so hard to achieve.
Lets look at these connection issues in turn….Line faults-who’s line is it anyway?
No telephone line and no broadband (as broadband ‘sits’ on a telephone line) could suggest a line fault. These can result from a range of issues such as BT carrying out engineering work at the exchange, a temporary drop in service from the provider, or workmen physically cutting through the lines, which may mean you are out of action for sometime! But whatever the issue, you need to have it sorted as soon as possible, with the option to go into ‘back-up’ mode until your service(s) can be restored.
If your telephone lines are with us, we will run initial tests to diagnose if there is an issue on the line, and then organise the correct action to have you back up and running as quickly as possible. If it does turn out to be those workman cutting you off completely, or a problem at the exchange, we will also liase with BT Wholesale (as they still own all the network), to book one of their engineers if necessary, and keep you updated with the progress. Thankfully whilst this is all taking place we can arrange for your telephone calls to be diverted to mobile numbers, so you can keep taking those all important sales calls.
Your broadband may not be working because of the line fault, as most broadband providers use BT’s copper wire network to deliver their internet service, so no line means no broadband! However, you may wish to consider having a router which will take a mobile SIM card, then you can switch to a cellular connection and get back on-line immediately, just when you need it. We can discuss these routers in more detail with you; they might just ‘save your bacon’! Broadband can also have its own issues, independent from the line, so there’s another reason to have an alternative service, especially if you rely on the internet for your business.
But what if its not your lines at fault?
Telephone System Faults
If your telephone system has failed, this too could result in not being able to make or receive calls. If you wrongly assume it’s your telephone lines at fault and call out BT (remember, they still own all of the network!) only for them to find it is a fault with your telephone system, you will be liable for their call out charge (currently £125.00)! If you have a telephone system maintenance contract with us, and your telephone lines are also with us, we can run the initial line tests, and if these are clear, we can send an engineer to your premises to diagnose the telephone system fault, and replace the faulty item to get you back up and running within hours. If your lines are not with us, we will help you to rule out a line fault before we send an engineer, but its much easier if its all under one roof!
