Vodafone and O2 join forces
Vodafone have joined forces with O2 to give better mobile coverage across the UK by sharing masts and antennas, getting rid of duplicates, and building some new ones. Vodafone have said “We’ve partnered with O2 to give you even better mobile coverage across the UK.”
The two mobile giants will be sharing mobile infrastructure only, and have made it clear this is not a merger. However, by joining forces, they will be able to extend 2G and 3G, providing 98% coverage to the population by 2015. It will also allow the delivery of 4G coverage to 98% of the population on a brand new spectrum.
The two companies won’t be sharing signal, their spectrum or any other service, so you won’t be able to switch between networks, but for those of you currently out of mobile reach, this could be the news you have been waiting for.
